NOLA, Floats, & Snowballs

May 28, 2024 / Life & Travel

New Orleans is a city bursting with life, history, and unforgettable experiences. From the lively energy of Mardi Gras to its famous cuisine, the city offers something special for every visitor. A great way to dive into its spirit is by visiting Mardi Gras World, where the famous floats are made. This working warehouse offers behind-the-scenes tours, letting you see the incredible artistry that goes into creating the colorful floats for the annual parades. You can even taste king cake, making it feel like Mardi Gras no matter the season. Another must-try is the snowball, a classic New Orleans treat. Unlike a typical snow cone, a snowball is made with finely shaved ice, creating a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. The flavors are endless, ranging from classics like cherry to more unique options like tiger’s blood or wedding cake. For an even richer experience, top your snowball with condensed milk or marshmallow cream. Hansen’s Sno-Bliz and Plum Street Snoballs are local favorites worth a visit. No trip to New Orleans is complete without tasting a Hubig’s Pie, a fried hand pie that’s been a city favorite since the 1920s. Though they’ve been off the shelves for a while after a factory fire, Hubig’s Pies are making a comeback, and locals couldn’t be more excited. In the meantime, there are plenty of other sweet treats to enjoy, from beignets at Café du Monde to pralines.
