Fall Break @ Cheekwood Gardens
October 10, 2024 / Adventure
Fall break was the perfect excuse to explore Cheekwood Estate & Gardens and experience its autumn transformation. Nestled in Nashville, Cheekwood offers everything from tranquil gardens to whimsical pumpkin displays, creating the ideal fall escape. Here’s a glimpse into my day at this beautiful estate. My visit began in Cheekwood’s Japanese Garden, a place of calm and reflection. As I wandered the serene pathways, surrounded by towering pines and delicate stone pagodas, the garden offered a peaceful retreat from everyday life. The fall colors were just beginning to emerge, adding pops of red and gold against the green.
This part of the estate felt like stepping into another world, where nature and design come together in perfect harmony. It was the perfect spot to start my fall break, breathing in the autumn air and soaking in the quiet beauty.
Cheekwood’s Pumpkin Village is a must-see during the fall. The giant pumpkin houses are a whimsical sight, adorned with vibrant gourds in shades of orange, white, and green. Each house feels like it’s straight out of a storybook, and walking through the village brought out my inner child.
These pumpkin creations are an iconic part of Cheekwood’s fall season, offering the perfect backdrop for photos and a fun, festive atmosphere. It’s a highlight for families and visitors of all ages, and the attention to detail in each display makes it a real treat.
For a mix of art and nature, the Woodlands Sculpture Trail was a highlight. This peaceful walk took me through Cheekwood’s wooded area, where contemporary sculptures are scattered among the trees. One standout piece features rusted industrial shapes that blend seamlessly into the forest.
This trail offers a quiet escape into nature while surprising you with modern art at every turn. It’s the perfect blend of creativity and the outdoors, and I loved discovering the sculptures hidden along the way.
One of the most unique parts of Cheekwood is the James Turrell Skyspace, a minimalist structure designed to frame the sky. Looking up through the circular opening, the sky itself becomes part of the artwork. The contrast of bright blue against the white interior of the Skyspace made for a stunning visual moment.
This peaceful space encourages you to pause and simply enjoy the view above, offering a sense of calm and reflection as the day goes by. Cheekwood Gardens in the fall is a true escape. Whether admiring the whimsical pumpkin displays, walking the art-filled trails, or simply enjoying the peaceful gardens, my visit was the perfect way to spend a fall break. If you’re looking for a beautiful autumn adventure, Cheekwood is the place to be.
